Police today, August 24th, released an e-fit of mugger who attacked a Nigerian woman while she was in labour. The suspect punched her in the face and stole her phone as she tried to call her family.
On June 26th, Patience Chukwu, 40, had left her home in north London to take a bus to hospital and was having contractions when the man swiped her Samsung Galaxy from her hands.
"I took out my phone to call my sister and tell her I was on the way to the hospital when the boy came up to me. He stood in front of me and I thought he was about to ask for directions. He was standing there staring at me and then he snatched the phone from me. As he grabbed it, I grabbed him by the hood. I was trying to recover the phone. He just hit me. He went to hit me in the stomach, so I bent double and the blow hit me in the face."
The attacker got on his BMX to flee but Ms Chukwu grabbed him. "He was dragging me and I was screaming," she said. "Then he hit me for a third time and I went blind for a short time. So I let go and he was gone.
"It was horrifying. I sat there afterwards shaking and shivering"
Ms Chukwu was initially treated on the street by police after the assault, which took place on a Sunday at about 10am in Leadale Road, Stamford Hill. She was taken to Homerton hospital, where medics took her into theatre for a Caesarean section after being unable to detect her child’s heartbeat.
Her son, Kamsi Kishi, was born hours later with complications. He suffers from seizures, which police today said are a result of the attack.
Ms Chukwu was not able to visit her child, now eight weeks old, until the next morning and could not take him home for a week while doctors kept him under observation.
The suspect is described as a thin black man aged between 18 and 21 with short dark hair. At the time of the attack, he was wearing a green hooded jumper. Ms Chukwu, who also has a four-year-old daughter, Kika, said:

You can’t kill people for abusing the Prophet – Zamfara gov

The Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, on Wednesday provided horrid details of the events leading to the killing of eight persons in the state.
He said his government would not take lightly the killing, which happened in Talata-Mafara community on Monday.Yari spoke with State House correspondents shortly after he and his Borno State counterpart, Kashim Shettima, met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Eight people were killed on Monday when a mob set the house of a man ablaze for rescuing an undergraduate that was accused of blasphemy.
He said the incident happened in his hometown.
He said, “The government will not take the issue of people taking the laws into their own hands lightly.
“You cannot say that whoever abused the Prophet should be killed when there is a government in place.
“There are laws and there are courts where Islamic laws are practised in Zamfara. So, why should someone take laws into his hands? Definitely, all the culprits will be brought to book.”
He said although there was no arrest as of the time he left the state, policemen and officials of the Department of State Services were working hard to apprehend the culprits.
The governor said the accusation of blasphemy levelled against the victim was false.
According to him, the intelligence reports available to him showed that it was a case of a fight between two students, which later led to false alarm.

No single person or group can take the glory of Buhari emerging as President– Obasanjo

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has said that no single person or group can take glory for President Buhari's success at the 2015 presidential election. He said this while discrediting some media reports that quoted him as saying himself and a few others brought Buhari into power.
Speaking during a meeting at the Taraba state government house in Jalingo the state capital yesterday, Obasanjo said
“I never made such claims. It is inconsiderate of any single person or group to claim the glory. I am astounded by media reports quoting me as saying that I and few other persons brought President Buhari to power to save Nigeria. I have never said that, because it is not true. Nigerians voted overwhelmingly for the President and we are all witnesses to that fact. No single person or group can claim that glory”.

Stop blaming Jonathan’s administration or you will end up like him – Sanusi warns Buhari

The Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, has cautioned President Muhammadu Buhari against blaming the previous government for the country’s current economic challenges.
The former Central Bank Governor, CBN, who was the Chairman, Special Session at the 15th Joint Planning Board and National Council on Development Planning, said the Buhari-led administration may end like the Jonathan’s administration if it continued to play the blame game.
Sanusi stated that the inability of the government to create employment for youths, had created terrorism in the country.
According to Sanusi, “There is nothing we are facing today that we did not know would happen. We made mistakes, many of them deliberate. We ignored every single warning.

”We should not continue to blame the previous administration, as we have also made some mistakes in the current administration.

“We must retrace our steps; otherwise we may fall into the same trap we fell the last time when the government was always right.

“The bottom line is that if your policy is wrong, it is you that must change.”

Recall that since the Buhari’s administration was sworn in last year, the government has continued to blame its successor for the country’s challenges.
